What Does Becoming a Nature Champion Mean?

Becoming a Nature Champion means stepping into a meaningful role in caring for the land, water, and ecosystems that sustain us. It’s about more than volunteering - it’s a mindset and commitment to act, influence, and inspire. Nature Champions deepen their own connection to nature while helping others do the same, often through small, consistent actions that build momentum over time.

In practice, it can look like stewarding a local trail or woodlot, advocating for thoughtful land use, supporting conservation efforts, strengthening the ecological economy* or simply creating space for others to experience and appreciate the natural world. Nature Champions also help bridge knowledge - sharing insights, stories, and local wisdom that strengthen collective understanding.

At its heart, becoming a Nature Champion means being part of a growing community dedicated to ensuring Nova Scotia’s natural spaces are protected, valued, and sustained for generations to come.

* Ecological Economy Defined:

An ecological economy is one where the health of nature becomes a measure of prosperity—not a cost of achieving it.

An ecological economy is an economy that recognizes nature as the foundation of long-term prosperity. It creates jobs, businesses, and thriving communities while protecting and restoring the forests, waters, wildlife, soils, and ecosystems that sustain life. Rather than viewing economic growth and environmental stewardship as competing goals, an ecological economy seeks solutions that allow both people and nature to flourish together.
